Disclosing an invention allows for the OIPM to start preparation for intellectual property protection. If an invention is to be brought to market, this is a critical first step. It is also important that an invention is disclosed in a timely manner in order to be in compliance with the Bayh-Dole law as well as any financial obligations to sources of funding for the research that led to the invention.
